In 1986, Harvinder Khanna, dubbed ‘guru’ by his customers, opened a new restaurant in Toronto. Guru Restaurant and Pub became hugely successful. It’s ambience, assortment of brews and unique authentic Indian cuisine made it a popular local dining destination.
Harvinder Khanna, a master chef in Indian cuisine, sold his thriving operation to pursue a real passion. He wanted to create his own line of prepared Indian curry sauces.
To develop the best tasting and highest quality curries, Harvinder traveled to India to research recipies and find the best exotic spices and ingredients the country had to offer. Harry says, ‘spice for curry is like yeast for bread…essential!’
After finding and testing recipes, sourcing superb ingredients and investigating a new form of spice grinding, Harvinder returned to Canada to start Guru Food Products Ltd. He launched three Indian sauces: Guru Curry, Guru Butter Chicken and Guru Veggie Makhni.
